Adam Edwards Named Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's soccer senior goalkeeper Adam Edwards (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) was named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week Monday. It is the third time he has earned the honor this year. Edwards made headlines last week by posting his 26th career shutout to tie the Patriot League record.
Edwards' shutout came in a key Patriot League game against Lehigh, which the Bison won 1-0 to jump into a four-way tie for first place. The Mountain Hawks outshot the Bison 17-2, but Edwards made eight saves, many of the diving variety while rain steadily fell. The shutout helped Edwards tie Lehigh's Ryan Grzeszczak atop the Patriot League career list with 26 shutouts. Edwards already owns the Bucknell career standard as he broke Ted Peterson's 30-year-old record of 24 earlier this month against in-state rival Lafayette.
Edwards did allow one goal last week as Bucknell tied Saint Francis (Pa.) 1-1 in a non-conference game. The Red Flash's lone goal in the contest came early in the first half when a shot deflected off another player's back and into the goal past Edwards, who was in position to save the original shot attempt. Edwards played just the first half in that game and was not called upon to make a save as Saint Francis attempted just three shots before halftime.
With his eight saves against Lehigh, Edwards vaulted his season total to 64 and his career total to 271, which is sixth in Patriot League history. He currently stands second in the league in saves this year. His eight shutouts do top the conference by a whopping margin as Lehigh's Charlie Sales and Colgate Doug Litvack stand second with five shutouts apiece. With a 0.85 goals-against average, Edwards stands third in the league.
With three regular season games left to play, Edwards is approaching many of his career highs in the goalkeeping statistical categories. He is just 20 saves away from equaling his career high from 2003, while his .842 save percentage is .015 shy of his freshman-year figure. Edwards is also just two shutouts short of tying his career high of 10, which he established as a freshman in 2002.
Bucknell, which is in a four-way tie for first place in the Patriot League, closes out its home season Saturday against American at 1 p.m. The Eagles, who are 3-2-0 in conference play, are one of the quartet of teams positioned atop the standings.
