LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team was selected second while the men's squad ranked third in the Patriot League preseason poll, the league office announced on Thursday.
The Bison women, who received more first place votes than any other school in the conference despite finishing two points behind Navy in the poll, will look to claim the team's fourth-straight league championship this season. Bucknell's women return six athletes from last season's All-League squads, including reigning Patriot League champions senior Lectie Altman (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham), junior Laura Goeller (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School), junior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and sophomore Erika Mannix (Coto de Caza, Calif./Tesoro).
On the men's side, Bucknell will vie for the team's second Patriot League title in four years. The Bison finished just behind Navy and Army in the preseason poll with 68 points and one first place vote and return all but one of the squad's seven All-Patriot League selections from 2005. Senior second team All-League recipients Todd Bauer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), Mark Kretzer (Northport, N.Y./Harborfields), William Schilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Adam Freeman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) will all look to lead Bucknell in their final seasons with the Orange and Blue.
The Bison will open the 2005-06 season at home on Saturday, Nov. 5, with the Bucknell Sprint Invitational beginning at 11 a.m.
