Bison Men's Track and Field Team Competes at Gulden Relays

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore Marge Grap took home Field Athlete of the Meet honors after winning both the shot put and 20-pound weight throw competitions at the Gulden Track and Field Invitational, Saturday at Gerhard Fieldhouse. Melanie Buczko, also a sophomore, won the pole vault for the second-straight competition with a height of 12'6 1/4," besting the closest competitor by just under a foot.
Grap grabbed the victory in the weight with a toss of 52'11 1/2," over two feet more than teammate Angie McFarland who took second in the competition with a mark of 50'3 1/2." Grap threw 42'6 1/4" for the shot put victory ahead of teammate Amanda Mockbee who placed second with a heave of 40'7."
Junior Kayla Halloran also took home an individual victory winning the 5000-meter run in 18:40.23. A group of Bucknell athletes won the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 34.63. Two Bison relay squads ran to second-place finishes on the day. Bucknell's 4x800 team placed second with a time of 9:57.18 and the Bison distance medley relay team grabbed the runner-up spot with a time of 12:38.40.
Jen Marsh and Ashley Curry both earned third place finishes on the day. Marsh took third in the mile with a time of 5:13.63 and Curry cleared a height of 10'6 3/4" in the pole vault.
Tyler Palumbo was the highest individual finisher on the men's side, taking second in the triple jump with a leap of 44'6 1/4." Teammate Nick Novotny followed in third place in the event with a mark of 44'3 1/2." On the track, Kevin Brown place third in the 5000 in 15:57.93, with Matt Forys just behind in fourth place in 16:04.07. Chris Nocera also notched a fourth-place showing in the 3000 with a time of 9:00.33.
The Bucknell 4x800 team took first in the event with a time of 8:02.19 for the only event victory on the men's side.
The Bison will be in action again next weekend on Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Nittany Lion Relays in State College, Pa.
