Bison Track and Field Teams Compete at Penn State Relays

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams made the trip to State College, Pa. on Saturday to compete at the Penn State Relays, the first competition of the season away from Gerhard Fieldhouse. Marjorie Grap, this week's "Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week", continued her already successful season by breaking her own school record in the 20-pound weight throw.
Grap threw a mark of 54'8" in the weight, bettering her own school record by nearly four inches, enough for fifth place in the meet. Teammate Angie McFarland finished sixth in the event with a toss of 53'9 ¾", moving her to third all-time in the Bucknell record books. Grap also finished sixth in the shot put recording a heave of 43'3 ¼".
Melanie Buczko cleared a height of 11'11 ¾" to win the pole vault for the third time this season and remain undefeated in the event. Buczko also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.94 seconds, matching her own school record in the event. Buczko, along with Catherine Trentacoste, Kat Allen and Danielle Todman, took second in the 4x55-meter shuttle hurdle relay clocking a time of 33.42.
The distance medley relay team of Jen Marsh, Monique Boley, Offeibia Hanson-Hall and Christa Sawko captured first place and the only Bison win on the track recording a time of 12:03.34. The team of Allen, Rehana Lanewala, Sarah VandenBroek and Lauren Bricker ran to a fourth place finish in the sprint medley relay with a time of 4:09.25, the second-best time in Bison history.
On the men's side, Kevin Fortkiewicz grabbed the highest Bison finish placing second in the 3000-meter run clocking a time of 8:39.43. David Mante was the next best Bison finisher taking fifth place in the pole vault with a height of 14'3 ¼".
James Meyer threw for eleventh place finishes in the shot put and the 35-pound weight throw. Meyer marked a 45'10 ½" throw in the weight and a 45'5" heave in the shot put.
In the relays, the team of James Redmond, Koran Evans, Faizal Asumda and Derrin Pierret placed sixth in the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:48.63.
The Bison will be back at Gerhard Fieldhouse next weekend for the Bucknell Octagonal on Saturday, Jan. 22.
