Bison Women's Tennis Competes in Singles Action on Day Two of Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. - In the first round of singles play Saturday at the Cornell Invitational, freshman Daniella Shtemberg notched a win defeating Eunice Chao of Columbia, 7-6 (5), 6-3, in the B flight. In the C flight, Chelsea Mills won her first round match over Vera Popova of Binghampton, 6-0, 6-1.
Mills then fell to Lindsey Nott of Army, 1-6, 6-7 (5). Schtemberg also fell out of the tournament in the second round losing to Erika Takeuchi of Cornell, 4-6, 1-6.
Nada Curcic, the only Bison playing in the A flight, lost her opening round match to Jelena Kopriva of Columbia, 6-7 (6), 1-6. Curcic then received a bye in the back draw and will play again on Sunday. Tanya Sichko also fell in the first round dropping her match against Nisha Suda of Cornell, 1-6, 3-6. Sichko lost her back draw match against Molly Condit of Columbia, 3-6, 3-6. Rheanna Gaskin also dropped her two matches in the C bracket.
Competition will conclude tomorrow at the Cornell Invitational. The Bison will be in action again on February 12, at Quinnipiac. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
