Bison Women's Tennis Kicks Off Spring Season at Cornell University

ITHACA, N.Y. - Juniors Rheanna Gaskin and Chelsea Mills combined for the only Bison win on the first day of competition at the Cornell Invitational, Friday in Ithaca, N.Y. Gaskin and Mills won their first match of the day over Gabriela Furdyna and Pascaline Cette of UMBC by a score of 8-6. The Bison duo then fell to Molly Condit and Anna Varnay of Columbia, 8-6, in round two of the B bracket.
Senior Tanya Sichko and freshman Daniella Schtemberg received a bye in the first round of the A bracket before falling to Milena Karchar and Marlena Hall of Columbia, 8-3, in the second round of play. Sichko and Schtemberg then proceeded to the back draw where they dropped a 9-8 (2) decision to Jelena Kopriva and Alyssa Freeman of Binghamton.
The Cornell Invitational runs until Sunday, Jan. 30. The Bison will be in singles action tomorrow with matches beginning at 10 a.m.
