LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison track and field teams split their squads on Friday with athletes competing at both the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pa., and the Bison Open at home in Gerhard Fieldhosue. With both competitions continuing on Saturday, only a handful of Bison got the opportunity to compete on Friday night.
The Bison men fielded the first and second place finishes in the distance medley relay at the Bison Open running times of 10:14.47 and 10:17.49, respectively. The team of Nick DeGregorio posted the highest men's finish in the field with a fifth place finish in the 35-pound weight throw (45-11 ¼).
At Penn State, Melanie Buczko and Angie Hall posted a two-three finish in the pole vault. Buczko's leap of 12 feet, six inches, was enough for runner-up honors while Hall cleared a personal-best height of 12'0" for third. Also in the field, Marjorie Grap recorded a toss of 55'7" in the 20-pound weight throw, enough to finish sixth in the event. On the track, Katie Pfeifer competed in the 5000-meter run finishing in 17:57.70.
Back in Lewisburg, Nina Reinhardt was the highest place finishing taking fourth in the pentathlon with a total of 3,187 points. Danielle Todman followed in fourth place with a total of 3,028 points. Brittany Vogt took fourth in the pole vault with a leap of 10'4." Catherine Trentacoste qualifed for the final of the 60-meter hurdles and ran a time of 9.54 seconds to take eighth place.
Both meets continue on Saturday with action beginning at 10 a.m. at Penn State and 10:15 a.m. at Bucknell.
