LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team was well represented in the weekly Patriot League awards with freshman Erika Mannix getting the "Female Diver of the Week" nod for the second time this season and sophomore Katherine Munson receiving "Female Swimmer of the Week" honors.
Mannix (Trabuco Canyon., Calif./Tesoro) snatched a pair of second place finishes against Colgate on Saturday, Jan. 15. Mannix's score of 242.54 in the one-meter diving event broke the previous school record of 234.82 set by Lisa Rockwell in 2004. This is the second time this season Mannix has rewritten the Bison record books; she set a new school record in the three-meter dive (11 dive format) scoring 428.50 at the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational in early December.
Mannix continued to impress against Colgate posting a score of 258.00 in the three-meter competition (six dive format). Her tally ties the school record set by Lara McCarver in 1994. The honors continue to roll in for Mannix, who was also named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week on Dec. 6, the same week as her first Patriot League award.
Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) was a double winner against Colgate taking the 200-yard backstroke in 2:10.55, over five seconds faster than the next-best finisher. Munson also grabbed first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.08, the seventh best mark in Bison history as well as the fastest time by a Bucknell athlete this season.
Munson also notched one of the highest Bison finishes against Brown and North Carolina on Jan. 12. Against tough competition, Munson placed fifth in the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.57. Munson was a second-team all-league selection at last season's PL championships after recording scoring performances in the 100 and 200 backstrokes and the 200 fly.
Last week, the Bison women came away with one win and two losses in a busy stretch of competition. Bucknell handled Colgate, 178-117, but fell to Brown, 237-63, and North Carolina, 180-116.
The Bison women will be in action this weekend against Columbia of the Ivy League. The meet is slated to begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, in New York, N.Y.
