LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell defensive back Jerome Acy (Orange, Ohio/Orange) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after spearheading a strong overall defensive performance in a tough 20-14 loss at No. 10 Villanova last Thursday.
Acy finished with seven tackles (six solo), including a big first-quarter sack that resulted in an 11-yard loss and knocked the Wildcats out of field-goal range. Even more crucial was Acy's interception in Villanova territory late in the quarter. The pick came with the Bison trailing 20-0 and it set up their first touchdown of the game.
Bucknell went on to force two more turnovers in the fourth quarter and pulled within 20-14 before having a potential go-ahead drive stopped on fourth down inches from the goal line.
Acy's interception was the sixth of his career. It is the first time in his career that he has earned a Patriot League weekly honor.
Bucknell is idle this week before returning to action on Sept. 18 at home against Cornell.
