LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior defensive back Virgil Rush (Bear, Del./Christiana H.S.) earned Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week plaudits for the second time in his career and first time this season on Monday, after helping lead the Bison to a 42-13 victory over Columbia on Saturday night.
Rush led the team with nine tackles and intercepted two passes as the Bison improved to 2-1 on the season with their second straight home victory over an Ivy League team. They also topped Cornell 15-9 on Sept. 18. It was the second career-multi-interception game for Rush, who also picked off two in a win over Fordham last season.
Rush, who was also selected as the Lewisburg Touchdown Club Defensive Player of the Week, leads the team and ranks third in the Patriot League with 27 tackles through three contests. As a team the Bucknell defense ranks 13th nationally and second in the league in scoring defense, allowing only 14.0 points per game thus far.
The Bison will look to make it three straight victories when they open up Patriot League play this Saturday at Georgetown at 1 p.m.
