LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman forward Krista Lee Gentile was honored as the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week and as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week Monday following a week in which she led the Bucknell women's soccer team to a pair of victories with three goals in two matches.
Gentile opened the week by scoring the only goal of the game for the Bison in a 1-0 victory at Cornell. The win was the first for the Bison in 12 tries against the Big Red and it marked just the third time Bucknell had defeated an Ivy League team in the program's 15-year history. Gentile's score came in the sixth minute as she collected a rebound off the crossbar before netting her second goal of the season.
Gentile added two more goals to her tally in the second game of the week, a 3-0 win over Lafayette in the team's Patriot League opener. After scoring the game-winning goal in each contest this week, Gentile now has three deciding goals to her credit this season. The Haledon, N.J., native stands fourth in the Patriot League with four goals and sixth in the conference with eight points.
Gentile joined teammates Caitlyn Kuntz and Meaghan Ferris as the third women's soccer player honored as the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week this year. She also became the first Bucknell player cited in the Patriot League's weekly awards.
Bucknell (5-4-0, 1-0-0 PL) continues conference play Sunday, Oct. 3, when it travels to Lehigh. The match is slated to kick off at 1 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
