The Bucknell women's tennis squad began action on Friday at the Quinnipiac Invitational. Four Bison women advanced through the first round of the tournament while the Bison got two more wins in doubles action.
In the top flight, Nada Curcic picked up a win over Stony Brook's Sandy Wijeratne, 6-4, 6-1, 10-6. Both Tanya Sichko and Daniella Shtemberg won their first round matches in the B bracket of the tournament.
Sichko defeated Christine Burek of UConn, 6-1, 6-1. Sichko then teamed with Shtemberg to pick up a doubles win.
"Tanya Sichko played phenomenally," said Bucknell assistant coach Stephen Monge. "She played basically flawless tennis in both singles and doubles."
Shtemberg also earned a singles win after trailing 5-2 in the second set, and came back to win five straight games to clinch the match against Barbara Schumsky of UConn. The final score of the match was 6-2, 7-5.
