Women's Tennis Advances Two Singles Players and Two Doubles Teams to Tournament Finals

HAMDEN, Conn. - Action continued on Saturday at the Quinnipiac Invitational for the Bucknell women's tennis team. The Bison will send two singles competitors as well as two doubles teams to tomorrow's championship matches.
Nada Curcic and Daniella Shtemberg both notched two singles wins on the day, three over the course of the tournament, and will both play in the final match of their respective flights on Sunday.
Curcic defeated Amy Morgenstern of Army, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6, and Katrina Elder-Bush of Rutgers, 6-4, 1-6, 10-7. Shtemberg picked up wins over Jenn Segar of Army, 6-3, 6-2, and Cheryl Hickey, also of Army, 6-3, 6-2.
Curcic will take on Jill Markowitz of Rutgers while Shtemberg will face Christine Ong of Army.
The doubles teams of Shtemberg and Tanya Sichko and Curcic and Brown both picked up two victories on the day and will face each other in tomorrow's all-Bucknell final of the A bracket.
Down 7-4 in their doubles match against Army, Shtemberg and Sichko rallied to win the match, 9-7, and advance in the tournament.
"Across the board, this is the best doubles our two women's doubles teams have played all year," said Bucknell coach Stephen Monge of today's performances.
Veronica Brown also earned a victory for the Bison defeating Quinnipiac's Tina Hoang, 8-4, in the consolation round of the A flight. Chelsea Mills picked up a consolation victory in the C bracket, defeating Kristin Kelsey of the University of New Hampshire, 8-1.
Competition will conclude at the Quinnipiac Invitational in Hamden, Conn., on Sunday afternoon.
