HANOVER, N.H. -- The Bucknell women's golf team opened its 2004-05 season at the Dartmouth Invitational over the weekend at Hanover Country Club. Teri Schlang led the way with a pair of 80s for the Bison, who finished ninth in a 20-team field.
Schlang's 160 composite was good for a tie for eighth place, six strokes behind medalist Cindy Shin of Yale, who shot 79-75. Yale also won the team title with a score of 629, 18 strokes better than runner-up St. John's. Harvard (650), Dartmouth (659) and Brown (663) rounded out the top five. Bucknell finished four shots behind eighth-place Boston College and seven ahead of 10th-place Central Connecticut.
Four freshmen began their collegiate careers in rainy and windy conditions in New England over the weekend, joining the sophomore Schlang in the Bucknell lineup. Kristen Phalen was the No. 2 Bison with rounds of 86-84; Amy Loughney shot 91-85; Kathryn Batchelor finished in 86-92 and Emily Chiodo carded 90-95.
As a team Bucknell shot 342 on Saturday and stood ninth in the 20-team field, then the Bison scored 341 on Sunday.
Bucknell travels to the Princeton Invitational next Saturday and Sunday.
