LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior midfielder Meaghan Ferris was named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week after scoring two goals in a pair of wins for the Bucknell women's soccer team over Marist and St. Peter's at the St. Bonaventure Invitational this past weekend.
The Boxford, Mass., native scored the only goal of the contest in Friday's 1-0 victory over Marist when she took a corner kick from Ashley Dincher in the 62nd minute. The tally was her first of the year.
Ferris, who has started all five games this season for Bucknell, found the back of the net again in Sunday's 4-0 win over St. Peter's. The Bison climbed out to a 3-0 lead in the first half, but scored just once in after intermission. That goal came from Ferris, again in the 62nd minute.
Entering this season, Ferris had just two career goals, but she matched that figure this weekend to bring her three-year total to four scores. Over the last two seasons, Ferris has started 21 consecutive contests.
> Ferris became the second women's soccer player honored this year as sophomore Caitlyn Kuntz captured accolades earlier this season for her game-winning goal in the season opener against Towson.
Bucknell, which went 2-0-0 this past weekend, finished second at the St. Bonaventure Invitational behind the host Bonnies. For the season the Bison stand at 3-2-0 and will take on Penn State Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. in University Park, Pa.
