Field Hockey Falls to Virginia 8-2 in Season Opener

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Bucknell Bison field hockey team opened up the 2004 season with an 8-2 loss at the hands of Virginia Cavaliers.
Bucknell ran into a strong Cavalier defense that only allowed two shots during the first half. Virginia led 5-0 at the half.
Bucknell's first goal came at the 46:05 mark when a shot from sophomore Callista Costopoulos was saved by Virginia goalkeeper Logan Carr and rebounded back to sophomore Alex Kyzmir who sent the ball into the cage for the goal.
Junior Kelly O'Brien put Bucknell's second goal on the board by scoring off her own rebound at the 64:43 mark.
Bucknell goalkeeper Liz Jordan notched 11 saves in 70 minutes of work.
The Bison will be in action again on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. at home on Graham Field against the Drexel Dragons.
