LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Sunday, Oct. 10, Patriot League men's soccer match between defending regular-season champion Bucknell and defending playoff champion Lafayette, the Patriot League's representative in the 2003 NCAA Tournament, will be televised on CSTV: College Sports Television, it was announced Thursday. The match, which will take place at Lafayette's Metzgar Fields at 1 p.m., will be shown nationally on a tape-delayed basis on Thursday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. It is one of just six regular-season matches CSTV will televise. "Having this game televised provides great national exposure for the Patriot League and both programs," said Bucknell head coach Brendan Nash. "The match will be big for both teams and it will be one of our most intense of the season. "With the game on television, our recruits will be exposed to Bucknell soccer. With our national recruiting effort, many recruits don't get a chance to see our style of play until they step on campus, but this match will allow them to watch an outstanding contest between two of the top teams in the league." The contest will be the 54th meeting in the series between the Bison and the Leopards. Bucknell holds a 25-22-6 lead in the series that started in 1931. In last year's match at West Fields, Bucknell posted a 1-0 shutout victory. The Bison compiled an 11-7-2 overall record last season, including an undefeated 5-0-2 Patriot League mark, on their way to the program's first outright regular-season league title since 1990. In the process, defender Michael Lookingland was named Defensive Player of the Year, forward Scott Visnic was cited with the Offensive Player of the Year honor and Nash earned plaudits as Coach of the Year for the second time in his career as Bucknell claimed three of the four major individual awards. The Leopards placed second in the Patriot League regular-season standings with a 4-1-2 conference mark. Overall, they were 11-6-3 and won the postseason tournament, held at Bucknell's West Fields. In its first NCAA Tournament match, Lafayette dropped a 3-1 decision to Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. Bucknell opens its 2004 campaign on at Hartwick on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. The Bison play their first home contest Sunday, Sept. 19, against James Madison at 2 p.m. College Sports TV, the fastest-growing independent cable network, is available to more than 20 million homes nationally on cable and satellite.
