LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head men's soccer coach Brendan Nash has announced the hiring of John Campbell as an assistant coach beginning with the 2004 campaign. Campbell has extensive coaching and playing experience throughout the northeast, most recently as an assistant at nearby Bloomsburg University. This fall he will join one of the Patriot League's top men's soccer programs at Bucknell.
Campbell is a 1999 graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y., where he led the Raiders in goals and total points in his final two seasons. Before arriving at Roberts, Campbell played his first season of collegiate soccer at Green Mountain College in Vermont in 1995-96. After graduating from Roberts, Campbell played for the Vermont Voltage of the Premier Development League in the summer of 2000.
Before spending the 2003 season at Bloomsburg, Campbell was an assistant coach at Binghamton University for three seasons. During that time, he owned and directed the Nicetouch soccer camp in Ontario, Canada. Over his playing and coaching career, Campbell has assisted at several university camps as well. He also holds an advanced national diploma from the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America.
"John is very energetic and has a youthful passion for the game that will relate very well with our players," said Nash, the 2003 Patriot League Coach of the Year. "John's depth of coaching experience will help us pursue our goal of winning the Patriot League in 2004."
The Bison's 2004 campaign kicks off Sept. 4 at Hartwick. Bucknell finished 11-7-2 last season, including a victory over second-ranked Maryland, and captured the Patriot League regular-season title.
