LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head coaches Rebecca Helt of the men's and women's tennis teams and John Zeigler of the men's and women's water polo squads were recently appointed to their respective NCAA Division I Rules Committees by the Division I Championships and Competition Cabinet. Both terms will begin Sept. 1 and run through the same date in 2008.
Both coaches will serve as representatives of the east region on their respective committees, with their duties including the review of rules and procedures with regard to their sports and the determination of the site for and participants in NCAA championship tournaments.
Helt will be one of six members nationally serving on the women's tennis subcommittee. She will also have input on the format for the championships, which currently have the first two rounds at sixteen four-team sites, followed by the final 16 teams at a single site. Though she is a member of the larger combined men's and women's committee, her appointment carries with it a "women's interest" designation and limits her to issues before the women's subcommittee. The 2004 campaign is Helt's seventh as the head coach of Bucknell's women's team, and this season is her second serving as head coach of the Bison men as well.
The NCAA Water Polo Championship format, over which Zeigler will have jurisdiction as one of the issues on his committee, currently consists of four teams at one site. Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium was selected to host the 2005 championship on the men's side. The 2003-04 seasons were Zeigler's fifth each with the men's and women's water polo teams.
