LEWISBURG, Pa. - On the heels of a terrific senior season, Bucknell defenseman Blaise Fletcher has been selected to compete in the Fourth Annual Warrior Major League Challenge on June 3 at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. Fletcher is one of 40 senior lacrosse players nationwide to be picked for the showcase.
After a day filled with practice, situational play and an exhibition game under MLL rules, the MLL Collegiate Draft will be held at 8 p.m. on June 3. Only the 40 players invited to attend the event are eligible to be selected in the first two rounds of the draft.
Fletcher last month was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year. At 6'6", Fletcher has an extremely long reach with his long stick and was an imposing force on Bucknell's back line, where he never missed a game in four years. One of the league's best cover men, he also ranked second on the team in ground balls this season with 38. Fletcher was also a second-team all-league pick in 2002 and a first-team selection in 2003.
Major League Lacrosse is a professional outdoor league comprised of six teams, located in Baltimore, Boston, Long Island, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Rochester. Former Bucknell goalie Justin Sussman, the 2002 and 2003 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, is a member of the Baltimore Bayhawks.
