Veronica Brown's Three-Set Win Puts Bucknell Women's Tennis over Villanova, 4-3

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis match was knotted at three until sophomore Veronica Brown won 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on court two over Villanova's Candice Carlin to hand the Bison a 4-3 triumph over the visiting Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon. The win gives the Bison women (12-2) some momentum going into Wednesday's important league match against Lehigh in Lewisburg.
Bucknell claimed the doubles point by winning on the back two courts. Samantha Berthod and Nadezda Curcic defeated Kelly McAndrew and Jessie Rybacki, 9-7 on court two while Chelsea Mills and Tanya Sichko knocked off Courtney Flezzani and Erica Walter, 8-3 on court three. Villanova's duo of Carlin and Melissa Reed defeated Bucknell's Brown and Rheanna Gaskin, 8-6 on court one.
The three singles wins Bucknell needed to claim the match belonged to Brown, Curcic, and Sichko. Curcic's win came on court three, 6-3, 6-2 over Flezzani, while Sichko's was a 7-5, 6-4 defeat of Rybacki. Villanova's Reed defeated Gaskin, 6-3, 6-4 on court one, while McAndrew beat Berthod, 6-1, 7-6(5) at fourth and Leighann Reilly handed Mills a 6-4, 6-3 loss at sixth.
Wednesday's Lehigh match will begin at 3:30 p.m. and is a likely must-win for the Bison in order to gain entrance to the top-four Patriot League Tournament, which begins in just 11 days.
