LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Angela Stackhouse ended her final home game with an exclamation point, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double in Bucknell's 6-1 win over Mount St. Mary's in the nightcap, in the process, setting a school single-season record with 35 runs driven in. The Bison dropped an 8-3 opener to the Mount before finishing the regular-season on a winning note.
Stackhouse's double came in the fourth inning of the second game, a frame in which the Orange and Blue exploded for three runs to build a 6-1 lead that would stand until the final out. Freshman Jennifer James was 2-for-4 in the game, including the first triple of her career in the fourth inning.
Junior Kelli Haskins scattered 12 Mount St. Mary's hits over seven innings, striking out a career-high nine batters, to improve to 5-12 on the year.
The Bison got their first run of the game on freshman Michelle Danish's first career home run in the second inning, before tacking on two more in the bottom of the third. Sophomore Lauren Wible took advantage of two runners in scoring position, delivering a two-RBI single up the middle of the right side for the 3-0 lead.
After the Mount made it a 3-1 game in their half of the fourth, BU responded with three more of its own in the bottom of the inning. Senior Jenna Fitch led off the frame with a single to left field, and two outs later, James smacked her triple to right center to plate Fitch. Senior Kristen Potts followed with an RBI single to left center that scored James, and Stackhouse drove in Potts, who had stolen second, with her double that reached the outfield fence on the fly.
Haskins recorded five of the six outs over the next two innings by way of strikeout, including striking out the side in the sixth, before retiring the Mount in the seventh with runners on first and second.
The Orange and Blue looked poised to take the opener with a three-run second inning on the strength of a solo blast by Wible and a two-run shot by Fitch, but Mount St. Mary's answered with four runs in its half of the third. The Mount took advantage of four hits and two of Bucknell's six errors in the game to take the 4-3 lead.
The Bison, who managed just five hits in the game, could not recover from the blow, giving up two more runs in the fourth and another two in the sixth. Mount St. Mary's pitcher, Maria Lutz, only allowed two Bucknell baserunners after the third inning.
Freshman Lauren Litts was 2-for-3 for BU in the first game, including her 10th double of the season, which moves her into a tie for fifth-place on the single-season list. Stackhouse also has a career-high 10 on the year.
Sophomore Julie Williams fell to 7-10, going all seven innings and giving up 12 hits. Lutz improves to 6-7 on the year after striking out eight Bison batters.
Bucknell is 14-24 overall. The Orange and Blue travel to Lehigh on Saturday to face the top-seeded Mountain Hawks in the first game of the Patriot League tournament at 9:00 a.m.
