VILLANOVA, Pa. - Bucknell's women's lacrosse team took a major step toward solidifying a Patriot League Tournament berth with a 15-8 victory at league rival Villanova on Saturday at Villanova Stadium.
Laura Nuss had four goals and an assist, while Meredith Wright gathered two goals and three assists to lead the Bison attack. Bucknell improved to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in Patriot League play. The Bison have sole possession of third place in the league standings with one league game remaining.
The Bison led just 6-5 at the half, but a decisive 7-0 run to start the second period propelled them to victory. Katie Edge began the flurry that spanned the first 21:06 of the second half. Amy Lee capped the run with a goal with 8:54 to play that gave Bucknell a commanding 13-5 lead.
Nuss opened the scoring just 46 seconds into the game off an assist from Andrea Paraud. Katie Mannix tied it for Villanova (1-13, 0-5), but Paraud, Emily Burman and Amy Hasler all scored in succession for a 4-1 Bucknell lead.
Steph Haas scored for the Wildcats to make it 4-2, but Nuss and Wright tacked on two more for Bucknell to make it a 6-2 contest with 11:35 left in the half. Villanova got right back into it, though, when Haas and Cindy Koza combined for three goals to end the first period and bring the hosts within 6-5.
Edge and Paraud had two goals and one assist for Bucknell, while Laura Seiboth and Amy Hafets also scored. Lauren Kremer added two assists.
Haas finished with two goals and two assists while Koza had two goals and one helper for Villanova.
The Bison host Drexel in a non-league game Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Graham Field before entertaining Lehigh next Saturday in the regular-season finale at 1 p.m.
