Bucknell Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at Big South Championship

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Bucknell's women's golf team shot 328 - it's best-ever round at the PUPS Big South Championship - and finished in sixth place in the nine-team tournament field, just two strokes behind fifth-place Radford. The three-day event wrapped up Wednesday at Greenwood Country Club.
Bucknell, in its second year in the Big South, shot 333-334-328 for a 54-hole total of 995. That is 29 shots better than its 2003 score, when the Bison also finished sixth.
UNC Wilmington shot a final-round 303, won the championship for the third straight year and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The Seahawks trailed all week long until passing Coastal Carolina in the final round. UNCW finished at 935, six shots ahead of the Lady Chanticleers. Birmingham-Southern (960) finished third, followed by Charleston Southern (966), Radford (993), Bucknell, High Point (997), Winthrop (1020) and Holy Cross (1178).
Bucknell's final round was highlighted by a hole-in-one from Meredith Kalman, a freshman competing in her first Big South Championship. Kalman, who shot her third straight 84, aced the par-3, 150-yard sixth hole with a 6-iron.
Freshman Teri Schlang shot a seven-over-par 79 for the second day in a row. Celine Herbin shot 81 and captain Jaime Hays carded an 84 for the Bison in the third round.
UNCW's Becky Berzonski, the Big South Player of the Year, earned medalist honors with rounds of 73-69-75. She finished 10 strokes better than Tiffany Shoppe of Charleston Southern. Herbin was Bucknell's top finisher, tying for 11th place. Schlang also placed in the top 20, tying for 18th.
