LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell pitcher Matt Daley (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) threw 15 innings over two games in Florida, giving up no runs and three hits, carrying a no-hitter in his second start to one out from fruition. Accordingly, he has been honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association as one of two Pitchers of the Week in the nation.
Daley started against Vermont on Mar. 15 and went six innings, giving up two hits and no runs while claiming his third win of the season, 7-0. He started again on Saturday against Dartmouth, allowing no hits until the 27th batter he faced in a 16-0 Bucknell win. Only one other Dartmouth runner reached base, via an error.
Daley shares the weekly honor with Delaware's Jarame Beaupre, who no-hit Hartford on the same day that Daley flirted with perfection. The Bucknell senior, who was also the Patriot League's Pitcher of the Week, looks to start again this weekend at Depew Field against Navy to start the league season.
