
Bison Women's Water Polo Wins Final Game in California, 5-3 over Whittier

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Meg Blitzer scored twice, and classmate Katie Hartigan tallied once and assisted on two goals to lead the Bison women's water polo team past Whittier at the Claremont Convergence on Sunday, March 21. The game was the last of the weekend for BU, which posted a 2-2 record at the tournament.
Bucknell held a 2-1 lead after one quarter, and that score would stand at halftime. Both teams found the back of the net twice in the third quarter, before the Orange and Blue added an insurance goal in the fourth frame to come away with the 5-3 victory.
In addition to Blitzer and Hartigan, freshmen Elizabeth Jensen and Mallory Sullivan also scored one goal each. Jensen added an assist, while junior Ashley Aiken got in the scoring column with one helper.
The Bison collected 11 steals in the contest, led by three from Hartigan. Senior Kelly Hofstetter, Jensen and Sullivan all swiped two steals, while Aiken and classmate Cody Keffer grabbed one each.
Freshman goalkeeper Mandy Bynum made eight saves for BU, which improved to 9-11 overall. The squad is back in action on the East Coast when it travels to Princeton for the second set of Southern Division League Game on Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28. The Bison face Maryland at 2 p.m. Saturday for the first game.
