Bucknell Women's Tennis Enters League Season Undefeated After 6-1 Win Over Loyola

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Bucknell women's tennis team continued its undefeated season on Sunday morning by defeating Loyola, 6-1, in the last non-conference match before Bucknell opens league play next Saturday at Colgate. The Bison are now 6-0 in duals this spring and 9-0 counting the three fall season wins.
Bucknell claimed the doubles point with wins by Samantha Berthod and Rheanna Gaskin, 8-3, over Jessica Liberatore and Amy Nitch on court two and by Nadezda Curcic and Chelsea Mills, 8-2, over Claire Najour and Gina Turturiello on court three. Loyola won at first doubles, as the team of Carolyn Pikington and Caitlin Russo beat Veronica Brown and Tanya Sichko, 8-1.
The Bison took five of six doubles matches, and were kept from a 7-0 win only by a three-set Loyola victory on court five. Brown won at first singles, 6-3, 6-4, over Pilkington, while Gaskin defeated Russo, 6-1, 7-6(2), at second singles and Curcic beat Turturiello, 6-3, 6-1 on court three. Tanya Sichko knocked off Nitch, 6-3, 6-1 on court four and Mills beat Najour, 6-3, 6-2 on court six. Loyola earned its only win when Liberatore knocked off Berthod, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 at fifth singles.
Bucknell's Saturday match at Colgate will begin at 11 a.m. The Bison have five non-conference matches remaining this season, the first bringing Bucknell back to the Baltimore area with a visit to Towson on Mar. 30.
