Bucknell Women's Lax Posts First-Ever Win over Lafayette, 16-9

EASTON, Pa. -- Bucknell freshman Katie Edge registered five goals and an assist to lead the Bison to their first-ever win over Lafayette, 16-9 on Saturday afternoon. The victory, Bucknell's first in 26 all-time games against the Leopards, snapped a three-game losing streak and upped the Bison's record to 3-3 overall, 1-1 in the Patriot League.
Andrea Paraud and Meredith Wright each had three goals and an assist, while Amy Hasler had a terrific game with a pair of goals and three assists. Bucknell entered the game 0-25 in an all-time series with Lafayette that began in 1978.
Emily Burman, Tory Field and Laura Nuss also scored for the Bison, who bounced back from an agonizing one-goal loss to defending league-champion American one week earlier.
Jennifer Stone and Erin Gallagher scored three times each for Lafayette (1-4, 0-1).
The Bison led 6-5 after a see-saw opening 20 minutes, but Paraud triggered a tide-turning 4-0 run to end the half with her unassisted tally with 9:24 left. Burman, Field, and Edge all scored just 46 seconds apart late in the half to stretch the lead to 10-5.
Lafayette closed within 10-8 by scoring the first three goals of the second stanza. Stone's goal with 23:01 capped the run, but the Leopards would not score again for another 21:13. In the meantime, Bucknell scored six straight goals to take command of the game.
Nuss scored on an 8-meter shot to stop Lafayette's comeback bid, and Edge, Wright and Hasler scored less than five minutes apart to put the game out of reach. Paraud finished a Wright feed with 3:56 left to give the Bison their largest lead of the day at 16-8 before Lafayette tacked on a late goal.
Lizzy McDaniel backstopped an outstanding defensive effort for the Bison with nine saves. Jaclyn Kushner had seven saves for Lafayette.
Bucknell outshot Lafayette 29-22 and won 15 of 29 draws.
The Bison return to action next Saturday, traveling to Worcester, Mass., to face Patriot League rival Holy Cross at noon.
