
Bucknell Softball Falls 7-0 to Iona on Last Day of Spring Training

ORLANDO, Fla. - Iona College struck early and often, handing Bucknell its fifth-straight loss in shutout fashion with a 7-0 defeat of the Bison softball squad on Saturday, March 20. The game is one of the last two for BU on its spring training trip at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla.
The Gaels scored two runs on one hit in the bottom of the second inning, and added another two in their half of the third on four hits and one Bucknell miscue. Iona made it a 5-0 game when Liz Hammel's double scored Stacy Moyer in the bottom of the fourth.
The Bison had just two hits entering the top of the seventh. Sophomore Kris Devore slapped a one-out single through the left side to give BU its third hit of the game, and one out later, junior Jill Pompeii collected her second hit of the day. Iona pitcher Kate Giella picked up the win, getting sophomore Alyssa Schneebaum to ground out to third to end the game.
Pompeii finished the contest 2-for-3, while Devore was 1-for-2 and senior Angela Stackhouse was 1-for-3 to account for Bucknell's hits.
Sophomore pitcher Julie Williams had another rough outing on the mound, going just two innings, giving up five hits and four runs. Junior Kelli Haskins came in in relief in the third, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out four.
The Bison are 2-5 overall and will play their final game of the spring training trip at 2:20 p.m. against Jacksonville State.
