LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Bucknell women's water polo team continued to struggle on its spring break trip to California, dropping a close 8-7 decision to Occidental, the fourth-ranked Division III team in the country. Junior Meg Blitzer led the team with three goals, passing the 100-goal plateau for her career in the process.
The Bison enjoyed a 3-1 lead after one quarter, but Occidental battled back to take a 4-3 lead at halftime. The score stood at 5-5 after the third, and the host team outscored the Orange and Blue 3-2 in the final frame for the one-goal victory.
In addition to Blitzer's three goals, she also handed out one assist for a team-high four points. Senior Kelly Hofstetter, juniors Cody Keffer and Katie Hartigan, and freshman Taylor Voeltz were the other BU players to score in the game. Jensen recorded a team-best two assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Mandy Bynum recorded six saves for Bucknell.
The Bison fall to 7-9 overall. The squad is back in action on Saturday, March 20, when it faces Claremont Mudd Scripps in the Claremont Convergence at 1:30 p.m. ET.
