LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) has added another honor to her 2003-04 season awards. The 6-0 guard/forward was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the championship game between Colgate and American on Wednesday, March 10, 2004.
Almind is making her second-straight appearance on the all-tournament team after leading her team to the semifinal round for the third-straight year. In fifth-seeded Bucknell's quarterfinal upset over fourth-seeded Holy Cross, Almind recorded her 18th double-double of the season with 24 points and 16 rebounds. The co-captain was an impressive 10-for-10 from the foul line, swiped six steals and recorded four blocks.
For the second-straight year, the Bison had the daunting task of facing the number one seed in the semifinal round. Almind was held to just 10 points against top-seeded Colgate, but bettered her own single-game rebound record, set in last year's quarterfinal win over Navy, with 20 caroms in the contest. In addition, her total of 36 rebounds in the first two rounds established a Patriot League Tournament record for rebounds in two games, passing her old mark of 29 set a year ago.
For the tournament, Almind averaged 17.0 points per game, 18.0 rebounds per game, 3.0 steals per game and 2.5 blocks per game. With her 19th double-double against Colgate, the senior tied the Bucknell record for double-doubles in a career with 32.
Colgate, which defeated Bucknell 61-57 in the semifinal round, went on to claim the Patriot League crown with a 71-60 decision over American at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, N.Y. The Raiders will represent the Patriot League in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
