LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the first time this season, two Bucknell athletes have won Patriot League Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards in the same week. Todd Bauer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) wins the male swimmer of the week honor, while Sarah Petcavage (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) wins the women's diving honor for the league and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Both are the first weekly accolades for each athlete.
Bauer, an all-league swimmer last season, was a perfect three-for-three as the men's team drubbed Lafayette on Saturday, 181-101. He captured the 200 yard freestyle race in 1:45.18 and the 500 freestyle race in 4:46.44 on his own, recording his fastest times this season in both events, and helped the 800 free relay team to a victory in 7:20.31.
Petcavage won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events for the first time all season. The wins were her second and third of the year after taking the three-meter diving competition at the Bucknell Sprint Invitational on Nov. 8, 2003. While earning 227.46 points, Petcavage also upped her second-best all-time status on the one-meter six-optional list, a format used since 2001. She earned 232.50 points on the three-meter board. The women's team sunk Lafayette 191-101.
The awards are the fourth and fifth of the season for Bucknell swimming and diving. Diver Jake Thompson won the Patriot League and ECAC awards on January 20, while Meghan Freese captured back-to-back Patriot League Swimmer of the Week honors on November 11 and 18.
The Bucknell swimming and diving teams will head to Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. for their final dual meet of the season on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 12 p.m. Bucknell's women will look to complete a perfect dual meet season both in the league and overall at 6-0, while the men will look to even their dual meet record at 3-3. From there, the Bison will host an invitational on Feb. 14 with five Patriot League schools represented before traveling to the league championships Feb. 26-28.
