LEWISBURG, Pa. - No Bison may have scored more than two goals, but 11 different members of the Bucknell women's water polo team found the back of the net on Saturday afternoon versus Salem International, routing the visiting Tigers, 14-3. Susan Kingerski, Jessica Trimis, and Ellen Caccia were the three Bison to double up in scoring.
Bucknell scored the game's first nine goals, three of which were scored one-on-one against Salem goalie Vanja Bokun. Kelly Hofstetter opened the scoring just over a minute into the first period, the only one the co-captain would play. Her fellow captain, Meg Blitzer, punched in the game's second goal less than a minute later. She sat the final three periods of the game as well. After a breakaway goal by Taylor Voelte, Trimis scored her first on a breakway, followed by a goal from Ashley Aiken, another from Trimis, and one from Amanda Nogic to end the period.
Bucknell goalie Mandy Bynum played just the first period, replaced by backup Katie Colgan for the final three frames. Only after goals by Fischer and Kingerski would Salem wipe the zero off its side of the scoreboard. The visitors scored the next two goals, with one by Desanka Filipovic and one by Alyssa Lacey. Bucknell went into the break with a 9-2 margin and scored the first five goals of the second half. Kingerski's second opened the scoring, followed by Caccia's first, one from Megan Purdy, and Caccia's second. Amy Wollish closed the Bucknell scoring with under five minutes left in the game before Filipovic provided Salem's third and final goal.
In addition to scoring three goals between them, Purdy and Kingerski each had three assists on the day.
The win brings Bucknell's record to 3-2, and the loss drops Salem's record to 0-2. Bucknell will play again Saturday night at 8:20 versus Harvard.
