PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior co-captain Meg Blitzer scored three goals for the Bucknell women's water polo team, but it was not enough as the Bison dropped a 9-7 season-opening decision to Harvard at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, February 14, 2004.
The Orange and Blue played to a 1-1 tie after one quarter, but found themselves trailing 3-2 at the intermission. Harvard built it to a 6-4 lead after three quarters, and the two teams played the fourth even, 3-3, for the 9-7 Harvard win.
In addition to her team-high three goals, Blitzer swiped three steals and was a perfect 2-for-2 on sprints. Freshman Tayor Voeltz made her collegiate debut a solid one, scoring twice, registering one steal and recording a team-best three ejections drawn. Also tallying goals for BU were junior Katie Hartigan and freshman Elizabeth Jensen.
Freshman Mandy Bynum made her first start in goal, making 10 saves while allowing nine goals.
Bucknell falls to 0-1 and will face Wagner at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
