Peter Garvin and Lectie Altman Named Patriot League Swimmers of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell swimming and diving have claimed two of the four Patriot League Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors for the second straight week. This time, Peter Garvin (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and Lectie Altman (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) have won the male and female swimming awards. Altman was also named the co-Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference female swimmer of the week, sharing the honor with Erika Newell of Fordham.
Garvin claimed two individual wins, a relay win, and a relay second last Saturday at Lehigh in a narrow Bison loss. He accounted for 33 of Bucknell's 143 points in the 157-143 shortcoming, winning the 50 free race in 21.46 seconds, his fastest time of the season, and took the 100 free in 47.46 seconds. His Bison squad finished the 200 medley relay in 1:37.10, good for second place, while they won the 400 free relay in 3:12.34.
Altman was instrumental in the Bison's 196-104 triumph over Lehigh, Bucknell's 16th consecutive dual meet win that completed the second straight year without a dual meet loss. Bucknell's women have not lost a dual meet since November 17, 2001 at Navy with American. Altman's 100 back time of 59.49 and 200 back time of 2:06.40 are pool records at Lehigh and accounted for 18 of Bucknell's points. Her two relay wins, as her team finished the 200 medley relay in 1:49.86 and the 400 free relay in 3:36.53, taking 22 more points for the Bison.
The Patriot League awards are the sixth and seventh of the season for Bucknell swimming and diving. Todd Bauer took the men's swimming award last week while Sarah Petcavage won the women's diving award for the league and the ECAC. Diver Jake Thompson won the Patriot League and ECAC awards on January 20, while Meghan Freese captured back-to-back Patriot League Swimmer of the Week honors on November 11 and 18.
The Bucknell swimming and diving teams are home this Saturday for the Bison Invitational with five Patriot League schools represented. It is Bucknell's last meet before traveling to the league championships at Annapolis, Md. Feb. 26-28.
