Bison Field Hockey Hands Out Postseason Honors at Annual Banquet

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team announced the recipients of the 2004 postseason awards at the annual season-ending banquet on Sunday, Dec. 5. The Class of '96 Awards are given annually and are named after players from head coach Heather Lewis' first four year class at Bucknell. Award receipients included seniors Steph Cabral, Cara Turner, Corin Inderbitzin-Brooks and Meiko Boynton along with sophomore Alex Kyzmir.
Cabral (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) was the winner of the Marja Bakermans Award for Loyalty. The award recognizes an individual who displays a positive attitude and sacrifices individual pusuits for the benefit of team accomplishments. Cabral, a co-captain, started all 19 games and made 48 interceptions during the 2004 campaign, the second highest of the team.
The Tracy Bass Award for Intensity was given to Turner (West Chester, Pa./Henderson). The Bass Award is given to the player who competes at her fullest potential at every practice and game opportunity. Turner started all 19 games and recorded one goal and five assists on the year.
Kyzmir (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) received the Elizabeth Goodall Award from Merit, given to the player who excels in the sport of field hockey through her impeccable work ethic. Kyzmir was a second team All-Patriot League selection after leading the Bison in scoring with seven goals and eight assists for 22 points.
Inderbitzin-Brooks (Springfield, Va./Annandale), also a co-captain, was named the recipient of the Sally Keith Award for Character for the second straight year. The Keith award recognizes a player who provides a strong leadership presence to her teammates. Inderbitzin-Brooks was named to the All-Patriot League second team for her outstanding play in the Bison defensive backfield.
The Carolyn Zesk Award for Academic Excellence was awarded to Boynton (Bernardsville, N.J./Pingry). The Zesk award recognizes the play who excels in the academics and athletes. Boynton scored six goals and dished out six assists for 18 points on the season. Her career marks for goals (21), assists (13), and points (55) rank in the top-10 in the Bison record books.
The Bison finished the season 6-13 overall, 1-4 in the Patriot League.
