Bison Men's Swimming and Diving Grabs Third Place Honors on Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - After two full days of competition, the Bison women's swimming team pulled off a second place finish in the team standings at the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational, Sunday at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison men grabbed third place honors in the five-team competition.
Bison Laura Goeller came away with the only Bison victory in a final event, winning the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:36.76. Goeller's performance earned the team 20 points towards its final tally of 879 points. The University of New Hampshire won the meet, totaling 974 points.
Just missing the top spot, several Bison women earned second place finishes on the day. Rebecca Scheffter gained runner-up honors in the 100 freestyle, swimming a time of 53.71. Mary Krakowski placed second in the 100 butterfly, clocking a time of 58.90. In the three-meter diving event, Erika Mannix pulled in 428.50 points for a second place finish.
The team of Lectie Altman, Jamie Flick, Krakowski and Scheffter combined for a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.28. The group's time is the sixth best in Bucknell history. Altman also grabbed a third place performance in the 200 backstroke recording a time of 2:05.79.
The Bison men scored a total of 688.50 points to finish third behind La Salle and Fordham. La Salle tallied 1, 018 points for the meet victory. The Bison men got their highest finishes in relay events, swimming to third place finishes in the both the 400 free relay and the 200 medley relay.
The team of Mark Kretzer, Brad Bennett, Brian Cole and John Peterman swam a total time of 1:38.57 in the 200 medley relay while the group of Ian Rawhauser, John Hoffman, Bennett and Peterman combined for a 3:13.16 in the 400 free relay.
Individually, Joseph Metcalf scored the highest Bison finish placing fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:14.14. Joseph Duncan also recorded fourth place honors, scoring 354.25 in the three-meter diving event. Todd Bauer grabbed a fifth place showing in the 500 free clocking a time of 4:51.37.
After winter break, the Bison men and women will head to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Jan. 12, to face the University of North Carolina and Brown University. Competition is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
