LEWISBURG, Pa. - After leading the Bucknell women's basketball team in scoring in its only game last week, freshman forward Hope Foster was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week Tuesday. She becomes the first Bison honored with one of the league's weekly awards this year.
The Washington, D.C., native scored a career high-tying 12 points to lead the Bison, and she also grabbed four rebounds for Bucknell in its 60-48 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore. Foster connected on 6 of 12 shots, including four in a row in the second half as she scored eight consecutive points.
Foster also blocked three shots to bring her season total to 19. She is averaging a league-high 2.1 blocks per game. Only Desire Almind, who had a Bucknell record 62 blocks in 29 games last year, has averaged at least 2 blocks per game in the 31-year history of the Bison program. Foster is also just 10 rejections shy of tying Susie Hopper for 10th place on Bucknell's single-season list.
For the season, the 6-2 forward is averaging 7.1 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. The rebounding figure ranks fourth in the Patriot League.
Bucknell is 3-6 after last Monday's win over UMES. The Bison travel to Ohio for a pair of games this week. They face Akron Wednesday at 7 p.m. The following night they take on Bowling Green in their final non-league road game of the season.
