LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell hockey squad has chosen goalkeeper Liz Jordan and forward Kelly O'Brien to serve as team captains during the 2005 season. Both Jordan and O'Brien will be seniors when the season begins in the fall.
"I think Liz and Kelly will be terrific leaders for this program," said Bucknell head coach Heather Lewis. "Obviously, they have performed at high levels as athletes in this program but more importantly, they have shown to their teammates and their coaches that they have the tools to be successful leaders."
Jordan (Towson, Md/St. Paul's) just finished her second season in the Bison goal and was named to the All-Patriot League second-team for the second-consecutive season. She led the Patriot League in saves with 161, averaging 8.47 grabs per game. Her 161 saves also rank sixth in the nation. Playing strong defense in the Bison cage all season, Jordan notched a season high 24 saves against American followed by a 19 save performance against Penn State.
O'Brien (Rye, N.Y./Rye) was a second-team all-league selection after her sophomore campaign in 2003. In 2003, O'Brien led the team with 10 goals and 21 total points. This fall, she started all 19 games, scored five goals and dished out three assists for a total of 13 points, fourth best on the team.
"Equally important to me, they recognize and reflect the core values of this program and have pride in wearing the Bucknell jersey," Lewis continued. "What I think is also essential are their classmates - Carli Cataldo and Katie Watt - who will provide additional support in the leadership area and that can only enhance the unity of this team as it moves forward in its quest for a Patriot League Championship."
The Bison lose four senior starters from the 2004 campaign, but return 18 letterwinners including second-team all-league selections in Callista Costopoulos and Alex Kyzmir.
