LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior cornerback Dante Ross (Groton, Conn./Robert E. Fitch), who intercepted a career-high three passes in the Bison's 30-20 victory over Duquesne on Saturday, was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Ross earlier this season picked up the league's special teams player of the week honor after returning two kickoffs for touchdowns in a win over Georgetown.
In Bucknell's season-ending contest at Duquesne's Rooney Field, Ross intercepted Dukes record-setting quarterback Niel Loebig three times, twice thwarting drives in Bucknell territory. Ross is the first Bison player to record three interceptions in a game since Joe Glenn did it against Duquesne in the 2003 season opener.
The school record for interceptions in a game is four by Kevin Eiben against Duquesne in 2000 and John Sitarsky against Furman in 1934. Ross is the seventh Bison player to record three picks in one contest.
Ross finished the season with a team-high four interceptions, giving him six for his career. Ross was third in the Patriot League in interceptions and also led the league this season in both punt returns (9.5) and kickoff returns (29.1).
He finished the season with 43 tackles (28 solo) and eight pass breakups in 10 games from his cornerback position.
Bucknell finished the season with a 7-4 record and went .500 or better for the ninth time in 10 years.
