Bucknell Women's Swimming and Diving Squad Edges Army in Last Event, 123-120

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Trailing 116-110 with one event remaining, the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team swam to first and third place finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay and won the meet, 123-120, Saturday at Kinney Natatorium. The team of Lauren Butrie, Lauren Reed, Kristen Skroski and Rebecca Scheffter combined for a time of 3:36.31, for the event victory, just ahead of Army in second place in 3:37.26.
Four Bison women earned first place finishes in individual events on the day. Laura Goeller took the 200 individual medley in 2:11.20 while Lectie Altman notched a win in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.67. Skroski was also an event winner, taking the 500 free in 5:11.42. Jamie Flick notched another Bucknell win in the 200 breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:25.80.
The Bison women also took the 400 medley relay victory in 3:59.19. The team of Altman, Flick, Reed and Butrie earned the Bucknell win in the event. The mark is the tenth best all-time for Bucknell. Emily Wichryk swam into Bison history, placing second in the 200 breast in 2:27.36, the third best all-time mark for Bucknell.
In the 1000 free, sophomore Nikki Woodward found her way into the Bison record books, swimming a time of 10:43.05, good enough for second place on the day and eighth all-time. Skroski, a freshman, also moved into the all-time Bison standings, finishing second in the 200 free in 1:56.40, the ninth best mark in Bison history.
Other second place finishers were Scheffter in the 50 (24.51) and 100 free (53.82), Katherine Munson in the 200 butterfly (2:11.53), and Goeller in the 200 back (2:09.86).
On the men's side, the Bison fell to Army, 157-79. John Peterman took the 50 free in 21.80 while William Schilling won the 200 breast in 2:11.33, for Bucknell's two individual event wins on the day. The team of Jake Thieman, Todd Bauer, Brian Cole and Will Patterson won the 400 free relay in 3:19.37.
Peterman was also the runner-up in the 100 free, swimming a time of 48.23. John Hoffman placed second in the 200 IM in 1:59.59 while Ian Rawhauser also took the runner-up spot in the 200 back in 1:57.11.
Both the Bison men and women will be in action again on Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational at Kinney Natatorium. The event will run through Sunday, Dec. 5, with sessions taking place at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on both days.
