BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman Krista Lee Gentile scored her team-high fifth goal of the season to give the Bucknell women's soccer team a 1-0 first-half lead, but that was all the offense the Bison could produce as they lost to Lehigh 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
Gentile, who is tied for fourth in the Patriot League with five goals, took a pass off the foot of senior Meghann Chipko in the 18th minute to stake Bucknell (5-5-0, 1-2-0 Patriot League) to that early 1-0 lead. However, that was the only shot the Bison attempted in the first half as they were outshot by a 10-1 margin before halftime and by a 23-5 spread for the game.
The Mountain Hawks evened the score in the 30th minute when Jennifer Fetsick scored. The two teams remained tied until the 77th minute when Daniela Molina tallied the game-winning goal for Lehigh (7-4-0, 2-0-0 Patriot League).
Junior Samantha Hecht made her first start of the season in goal for the Bison and made a season-high eight saves, including five in the second half.
Gentile's first-half tally marked the third consecutive game she has scored within the first 20 minutes of play. Against Cornell she scored just 5:40 into the contest, while she opened the scoring against Lafayette at the 15:20 mark. Both of those matches were Bucknell victories. The team leader in shots with 18, Gentile has scored four goals in the last three games.
The Bison will continue their two-game road trip Friday night at Army. The game is slated to kick off at 7 p.m. at West Point, N.Y.
