COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Last year the Bucknell men's soccer team upset then-No.2 Maryland 1-0. The Bison attempted to repeat their feat Tuesday evening, but fell to the 12th-ranked Terrapins 2-0 in a non-league match at Ludwig Field.
After allowing a pair of first-half goals, Bucknell (5-9-1) held the powerful Maryland offense that was averaging nearly three goals a game scoreless over the final 45 minutes of play. Junior goalkeeper Adam Edwards took over for freshman Joey Kuterbach at the beginning of the second half and made two saves. Kuterbach stopped two shots and allowed two scores in his one half of play.
Jason Garey tallied both of Maryland's goals as the Terps won their fourth consecutive match to improve to 11-4-1. Garey now has 14 goals this season. The first of his scores came in the 27th minute, while his second came with just 4:28 remaining before halftime. Maryland is 8-0-1 this season when he scores at least one goal.
Despite being outscored 2-0, Bucknell lost the shots battle by just a 17-9 margin.
The Bison return to Patriot League play Saturday, Oct. 30, when they host Navy at West Fields. The team will celebrate Senior Day prior to the game which kicks off at 1:30 p.m.
