LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell freshman fullback Josh DeStefano (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) was named the Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week on Monday after a productive second half in Saturday's 40-17 loss at Lehigh.
In just over one quarter of action, DeStefano rushed for a team-high 44 yards on only seven carries, and he also caught three passes out of the backfield for 42 yards. He had an 18-yard rush and catches of 15 and 12 yards on Bucknell's final scoring drive of the day.
DeStefano has now played in two varsity games and is averaging 4.8 yards on 12 carries. He is expected to make his first collegiate start at fullback this Saturday when Bucknell travels to Holy Cross.
He is Bucknell's first Patriot League Rookie of the Week since linebacker Dorian Petersen won the award after the 2003 season finale.
After suffering their third straight defeat at Lehigh on Saturday, the Bison are 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Patriot League.
