Bucknell Women's Tennis Takes 7-0 Decision from St. Joseph's

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Nada Curcic claimed victories at both No. 1 singles and doubles and was one of four multiple winners on the day as Bucknell cruised to a 7-0 victory over St. Joseph's on Tuesday afternoon. Playing their lone dual match of the fall, the Bison did not drop a set in sweeping the six singles matches, and they won two of the three doubles tilts.
In doubles play, Curcic and Veronica Brown topped Nicole Morrison and Jess Swanderski 8-1 at No. 1, while at second doubles Tanya Sichko and Daniella Shtemberg rallied past Michelle Savage and Alisa Van Meter.
The Hawks' lone win of the day came at No. 3 doubles, where Marisa Donelson and Gina DiGiacomo edged Jill Merselis and Kelly Porter, 8-6.
Curcic led the romp in singles, streaking to a 6-1 win over Morrison in the second set after taking a hard-fought opening set 7-5. Curcic is now 12-0 in singles and 10-1 with Brown in doubles this fall.
The Bison yielded only nine more games on courts two through six, including a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash by Rheanna Gaskin at No. 5.
Elsewhere, Sichko topped Savage 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2; Brown was a 6-0, 6-1 victor over Swanderski at No. 3, Shtemberg defeated Erika Guers 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 and Chelsea Mills downed Van Meter 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6.
Bucknell also captured four singles matches and a doubles contest in exhibition play. Merselis, Porter, Caitlin Baffa and Renee Clinton all won in singles in straight sets, while Baffa and Clinton teamed for an 8-2 doubles. win.
The Bison conclude their fall slate Oct. 22-24 at the ITA Regional Championships at Penn.
