THIS EVENING'S GAME: Bucknell carries a 6-6 record into tonight's contest after defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in thrilling fashion, 67-65, last night. The Bison earned their first true road win of the season in the game.
Iona brings a 3-7 record into this evening's contest. The Gaels return home for a three-game stint after playing the last four games on the road.
THE SERIES: The Orange and Blue and Iona have met one time in the history of the series. BU faced the Gaels in the first round of the Iona College Tournament on December 4, 1992, falling 66-48.
COMMON OPPONENTS: BU and Iona share two common opponents in Loyola (Md.) and Manhattan. The Bison faced Loyola (Md.) in the second game of the season, falling 56-46. Bucknell played Manhattan on January 2, and also lost a 59-49 decision to the Jaspers.
The Gaels faced their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Greyhounds on December 5, defeating Loyola (Md.), 69-66. Iona takes on conference rival Manhattan in its next game on January 11.
LAST TIME OUT: Bucknell held a seven-point lead at halftime, and built that to as many as 11 in the second before Fairleigh Dickinson came back to take an eight-point advantage with just over five minutes to play.
The Bison still trailed by six with 51 seconds left when junior Brooke Tomovich and sophomore Lindsey Geosits hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the contest at 65-65 with just 40 seconds to play.
After a defensive stop on the other end, the Orange and Blue got the ball to freshman Lindsey Hollobaugh, who hit the 15-footer with six ticks left on the clock, giving BU the thrilling 67-65 win.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE: The Orange and Blue are in the midst of a four-game road trip. The Bison will not return home until January 17, when they host Navy for the first home Patriot League contest of 2004.
BU's current road trip will take them to two different states and the District of Columbia. BU faced Fairleigh Dickinson in Teaneck, N.J., last night, and is playing Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y., tonight.
Bucknell then opens conference play at American on January 10, before ending the trip with a game at Lehigh on January 14.
FEDORJAKA ACHIEVES MILESTONE: Bucknell women's basketball head coach Kathy Fedorjaka reached a coaching milestone for her tenure at the helm of the Bison program. With Bucknell's 67-65 win over Fairleigh Dickinson last night, Fedorjaka became the first Bucknell women's basketball mentor to reach 100 victories at the Lewisburg school. When Fedorjaka eclipsed the milestone, she became just the third active Patriot League coach to accumulate 100 victories while at a Patriot League institution (Bill Gibbons - Holy Cross, Sue Troyan - Lehigh).
ALMIND CLIMBING CHARTS: Senior Desire Almind is having arguably her best season for the Orange and Blue. The 6-0 guard/forward is leading the team in both scoring (18.2) and rebounding (14.5), and her carom total is also tops in the country.
With 1,298 career points, Almind needs just two points to become the seventh Bucknell player, and the 21st in the Patriot League, to accumulate 1,300 career points.
HOLLOBAUGH MOVING INTO ROOKIE CHARTS: Freshman Lindsey Hollobaugh has scored 201 points through the first 12 games of her career. The rookie needs just 30 more points to jump into the Bucknell top-10 for points by a first-year player. In addition, her current 16.8 points per game average ranks second on the rookie ppg list, ahead of former standout Molly Creamer (15.8 in 1999-00) and current senior Desire Almind (15.1 in 2000-01).
