LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) has been named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. Almind was also named the Patriot League Player of the Week for the third time in her career, announced by the conference office on Monday, January 12.
In a 2-1 week for the Bison, Almind averaged 20.3 points per game and 17.3 rebounds per contest. The 6-0 guard/forward opened the week with a 24 point, 17 rebound performance in a 67-65 win at Fairleigh Dickinson. She also matched her career-high with five assists in that contest.
The very next day, Almind became just the third Bucknell player to record 20 points and 20 rebounds in a game with a 29 point, 20 carom effort in a victory at Iona. The rebound total established a career-high, and marked the first time in 14 years a Bison player reached 20 boards in a game. She also rejected four shots and added a pair of steals.
In the third game of the week, Almind was held to single-digits scoring for just the second time this season, but contributed with 15 rebounds, a career-best five blocks, and three steals in a 50-49 loss at American.
For the year, Almind is leading the team, and is second in the Patriot League, with 18.3 points per game. She leads the country in rebounding with 14.9 each night out, and also leads the conference with her 35 blocks.
Bucknell is 7-7 on the year, 0-1 in Patriot League play. The Bison conclude a four-game road trip at Lehigh on Wednesday, January 14.
