PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bucknell men's soccer team's offensive struggles continued as the squad dropped a 2-0 decision at Duquesne on Saturday, September 6. Two first half goals were enough to lead the Dukes over the Orange and Blue.
Duquesne sophomore Steve Mellor scored his third and fourth goals of the season in the first period as the Dukes cruised to the win. With 17:10 gone in the opening frame, Dan Hartung found Jason Kutney who passed the ball to Mellor for a 1-0 lead. Just 6:41 later, Derek Freund and Derek Mackenzie tallied assists on Mellor's second score put the host team ahead 2-0.
The Bucknell defense settled in after that point and the remainder of the contest was very evenly matched.
Bison goalkeeper Adam Edwards recorded five saves on 14 Duquesne shots. Bucknell managed 11 shots, and Dukes' freshman goalkeeper Zach Varga was forced to stop four of those.
Bucknell is 0-2 and returns home to host Saint Peter's at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9. Duquesne improves to 3-0 on the year.
