Hamilton, N.Y. - The Bucknell field hockey team continued its young season without a defeat on Saturday afternoon at Colgate, winning 3-1. Sophomore midfielders Carli Cataldo and Kirsten Nilsen, as well as senior defender Kate Ruda scored goals to give the Bison a Patriot League victory in the team's first opportunity this year.
Bucknell followed up its victory over Siena last weekend with solid play against Colgate. Sophomore Liz Jordan, in her first season as Bucknell's number one goalkeeper, had five saves and gave up just one goal.
Cataldo opened the scoring 5:50 into the first half off an assist from Ruda. Colgate sophomore Sarah McCarthy scored at the 19:30 mark of the first half off a penalty corner to tie the game, but Ruda scored what would prove to be the game winning goal at the 32:09 mark. That goal was unassisted and was Ruda's second goal on the season. Ruda also scored Bucknell's only goal against Siena last weekend in a 1-0 win.
Nilsen added an insurance goal off an assist from sophomore forward Kelly O'Brien in the game's 67th minute to complete the scoring on the afternoon.
Bucknell will play next at Monmouth on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1:00 p.m. The next home game and Patriot League match is Saturday, Sept. 20 against Holy Cross on Bucknell's new artificial turf field, Graham Field. The field's dedication will take place the evening before, on Friday, Sept. 19.
