Lewisburg, Pa. - The weekly STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll was released today, and Bucknell received three nominations from among the 32 voters to be included in the top-20 poll. At 5-1, the Bison are off to their best start since 1984, when they won their first three games. Bucknell plays this afternoon at home against St. Francis (0-8, 0-4 NEC), and the Bison would be 6-1 for the first time since 1975 with a win.
The Bison were recognized for having two wins this week, one over a team that also appears in the poll. Following a 4-0 win at Maryland-Baltimore County a week ago, the Bison beat Lafayette, 3-2, last Saturday. Lafayette also received three nominations to be included in this week's poll.
Three more of Bucknell's opponents were included in the poll or received votes to be included. Holy Cross, the only team to beat Bucknell this season, 2-1 in the first game at Bucknell's Graham Field on Sept. 20, earned three nominations, while American, which Bucknell has at home on Nov. 1, received 11 nominations. Penn State, which Bucknell visits on Oct. 21, is No. 8 in the nation this week.
Wake Forest University, at 9-0, received all 32 first place votes in this Tuesday's poll.
